Everybody in facebook is diving??
Scuba diving used to be limited to the military and people who dive for a living, who carry out underwater maintenance and remove mines. It is now becoming more and more popular and at least one quarter of my friends in facebook, has scuba dived. It has almost become a frenzy like the Hello Kitty or the bubble tea fads. Why is so many people scuba diving these days? I guess we will have to try it out ourselves. Here is some information to get you started.
SCUBA
Scuba diving does not simply mean swimming underwater, the word SCUBA actually means something; Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus. Scuba is the cylinder divers carry on their backs connected to their masks. This apparatus enables us to breath underwater much longer than if we were to hold our breath. This means, we will be able to go deeper exploring the fishes and corals without having to go up to the surface every few minutes.
Levels
This is one of the reasons why scuba diving is much more commercialised these days. They have broken up diving courses into ‘bite size pieces’, so people from any background can pick it up. One of the biggest scuba diving certification courses is run by Padi.
1-Basic
In the basic level, if you are not sure if diving will ever be the sort of activity suited for you, you can try the Padi Discover Scuba Diving course. It cost less than $100 and you will be thought the minimal basic underwater skills in the swimming pool.
If you think diving in the swimming pool is not cool, you can jump in and sign up for the Padi Open Water Diver course. This course includes one theory lesson, one practical lesson in the swimming pool and 4-5 open water diving segments. This course will certify you for open water dives; if you are planning on going for a trip that includes diving, you will need this certification.
2-Adventure
- Padi Adventure Diver: Complete any three adventure dives.
-
Padi Advanced open water diver: Complete adventure diver plus
- Deep adventure dive and
- Underwater Navigation Adventure Dive
- Padi Rescue diver: The PADI Rescue Diver certification is compulsory for all PADI Pro-level training (PADI Divemaster, Assistant Instructor, and Open Water Scuba Instructor). At the PADI Rescue Diver level, student divers are trained to manage difficult dive emergencies and trained to perform emergency rescue techniques in situations.
3-Professional
By now if you are hooked to diving, or since you are already diving much and might as well take up another course, you may consider taking up the Padi Dive Master Certification programme. A Dive Master will work closely with the dive instructor to, supervise general diving activities for certified divers and assist student divers in training. After completing the dive master course, you may complete your diving certification with the Padi Open Water Dive Instructor course.
Conclusion
From the aspects above we can conclude that the progression of the certification is a form of motivation for people to not only start diving but to continue diving and acquiring the next certificate.
We should also not rule out the fact that diving can be a fun holiday adventure, a fresh breath of air from the museum and historical site visits. The Dive Companyoffers diving certification with diving trips around the region at affordable rates.
